Until 1956, the only way to get to the city lights from Britannia was by boat. Both "the Beach" and the "Townsite" had thriving social calendars and a mind-boggling variety of ways to spend those spare hours. |

Britannia folk made their own fun, and the focus for many activities was the Community Club. Facilities included libraries, club rooms, kitchens, billiard rooms, gymnasium, swimming pools and tennis courts. |

Sporting events were popular, and dances, parties, movies, amateur theater productions, and picnics were held throughout the year. The highlights of the year were always Miner's Day at the Townsite, and Copper Queen Day at the Beach. |

Once the railway and highway were completed by the 1950's many of the community activities began to be replaced by the attractions that the city had to offer, and by the time the mine closed in 1974 very little of the 'old life' remained. |
