WHO IS THE VICTIM?

A victim is the individual, family or friend who has suffered or been adversely affected by a crime or tragedy, such as:

  • Homicide

  • Sexual assault

  • Assault

  • Residential break-in

  • Robbery/Armed robbery

  • Sudden death

  • Suicide/Attempted Suicide

  • Serious motor vehicle incident

  • Harassment/Stalking

These events and many others may cause people or those close to them to feel victimized.

IF I HAVE BEEN, OR BECOME A VICTIM, WHO CAN HELP ME?

Referrals may be made through the investigating officer, other agencies,
or assistance  can be obtained by contacting Victim Services directly.

This unit, under the direction of a police officer, is staffed by civilian personnel and volunteer support staff. Victim Services staff are trained and skilled in dealing with matters of criminal victimization/trauma.

YOU MAY EXPERIENCE ARE:

  • Fear

  • Anger

  • Sleeplessness

  • Recurrent dreams

  • Intrusive thoughts

  • Depression

  • Hyper-alertness

  • Nervousness

  • Guilt

Victim services will listen, try to help, or refer you to those who can best help.
